RE: Filming in the Downtown Eastside
As one of Vancouver’s largest and most varied neighbourhoods, the Downtown Eastside (DTES) affords a unique urban landscape that is coveted by many location scouts. Film units are requested to consult with one of our film liasion officers regarding community contributions, which helps provide services in the Downtown Eastside, specifically:
DNC Women’s Art Collective
25% of film community contributions will help fund the Women’s Art Collective, which helps buy supplies that support many low income women from marginalized groups produce art and sell the art at the DTES Street Market at Pigeon Park.
DNC Aboriginal Sub-committee
25% of film community contributions will help fund the DNC Aboriginal Sub-committee. The DAS fights for the rights of indigenous people in the DTES, encourages entrepreneurship through making and selling of traditional bread and crafts at the DTES Street Market at Pigeon Park.
Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council (DNC)
50% of film community contributions help fund the DNC, which advocates for the rights of low income residents of the Downtown Eastside, provides a voice for the voiceless, and fights for higher welfare rates, women’s rights and safety, residential tenancy rights, homeless shelter rights, community directed policing, social housing, and against the harmful effects of gentrification.
On behalf of the DTES neighbourhood, we thank you for your contribution to our community and wish you best of luck in your production.
