DNC MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING & DISCUSSION
– SAFETY & JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE –
END POOR BASHING & POLICE BRUTALITY
SATURDAY OCTOBER 6
2:30PM for food
3PM meeting
DODSON HALL
(25 E Hastings, beside the bottle depot)
This month’s DNC general meeting will be focused on the mounting community complaints about racist and poor-bashing policing on the streets of the DTES. Over the summer members of the DNC have been assaulted, harassed, ticketed, and arrested by police more than usual. And in only the few weeks since new transit stalls and ticket enforcement policies have come into place, low-income members of our community have been saddled with thousands of dollars in tickets that can now be enforced and end up with jail time.
Come to the DNC meeting this month and bring your stories about police and skytrain cop harassment and brutality and be ready to plan our responses. The meeting is also coming just one day after the DTES Cop Watch protest against police brutality and the lack of accountability in the complaints process, so there will be a report from that protest too. (See the announcement below)
Other topics for discussion in the meeting include preparation for the AGM and board elections in November, struggles in the DTES Local Area Planning Process, upcoming condo projects, and more.
